Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Analyst to join its Finance team in the Faculty of Applied Science. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-level financial and budgetary analysis, data management, and reporting to support strong budget management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and implement consistent financial and budgetary reports/systems and structures for departments and senior management to enable senior leaders to monitor the financial health of the areas in their responsibility.
  • Financial Modeling and Forecasting: Develop and maintain key databases of all tenure-track faculty members and lecturers, including financial modeling to merge payroll and ledger data into a customized database.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Perform granular analysis of actual costs for the Faculty as a whole, including analysis of budget drivers such as benefit costs, faculty costs, travel costs, etc.
  • Financial Systems and Data Management: Develop and maintain expert knowledge in UBC's financial systems (including Workday, Adaptive, SERA) and other relevant UBC databases (including SIS) to extract and analyze data relevant to financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Financial Leadership and Collaboration: Work closely with the Associate Director, Finance, Associate Deans, Department Heads, and Department Administrators to provide strategic financial information and support.
Requirements
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of seven years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Strong financial planning and analysis skills, including financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
