We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Support Education Assistant to join our team at School District #6 (Rocky Mountain). As a Support Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse abilities and disabilities in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in the development and delivery of support services to individuals or small groups of students under the supervision of a Teacher or Principal.
- Assist in adapting classroom materials and provide instructional support, behavior management support, and record-keeping support as directed.
- Support student independence in the use of appropriate accommodations to access curriculum.
- Assist with development and maintenance of community work experience placements for students with identified special needs.
- Assist students with personal care needs, such as toileting, dressing, eating, mobility, communicating, and facilitating participation in activities, as outlined by health professionals.
- Work with assistive technologies, including computers, peripherals, and software applications, to support student learning.
- Actively support independence for all learners and promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in and understanding of students with diverse abilities and disabilities.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with limited supervision and/or within a complex team environment.
- Demonstrate an ability to manage personal behavior in order to influence a positive outcome and de-escalate distress.
- Demonstrate a high level of adaptability and responsibility.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and maintain a flexible and cooperative manner.
- Provide proactive, trauma-informed care while modeling respect and empathy.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Appropriate post-secondary training, such as a Special Education Assistant Program or a diploma in counseling, social work, child care, or education.
- Successful experience working with students with diverse abilities or disabilities, including low-arousal or non-violent crisis intervention.
As per the Collective Agreement 440, the hourly rate for this position is $29.37 for certified Education Assistants and $25.83 for non-certified Education Assistants.
