Job Title: Technical Director
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Director to lead our programming team and drive the technical vision of our studio. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing technical strategies that align with our artistic and game design goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of various game technologies, including engines and middleware, to inform technical decisions and drive innovation.
- Collaborate with Technical Leads to manage the programming process, identify tasks and time estimates, and ensure the delivery of high-quality games.
- Establish and maintain a productive methodology and solid coding practices, including technical briefs, code reviews, and long-term quality and future code sharing between projects.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks on projects, developing contingency plans with the team to ensure successful project delivery.
- Interface with design and art directors to stay up-to-date on industry trends and adapt quickly to implement key features that enhance our games.
Team Leadership:
- Foster open communication within and across disciplines, promoting a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Exhibit strong leadership, charisma, enthusiasm, and commitment, inspiring and motivating team members to achieve their best.
- Manage the performance of programming team staff, providing guidance and support to direct reports and ensuring clear and challenging objectives are set.
Knowledge Sharing:
- Develop and propose solutions to improve project development within the studio, promoting technical best practices and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and promote the application of technical best practices within the studio, facilitating and encouraging the sharing of technical knowledge and code between projects.
Requirements:
We are looking for a candidate with:
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in the games industry.
- At least 7 years of programming experience.
- Experience with console development is an asset.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
- A good knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices.
- Must have shipped at least one game on console.
- Minimum of 3 years working with Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
- Ideally held a technical developer role previously.
- Exceptional management and communication skills.
