About This Opportunity
Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team in Southern Ontario. As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing estimates of probable costs for construction projects, advising on tendering procedures, and coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates of costs for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, and recommend tender awards.
- Establish and maintain tendering processes, cost monitoring, and reporting systems.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
- Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, and project meetings with the Division Manager, Chief Estimator, Project Manager, and Purchasing team.
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare economic feasibility studies.
- Maintain industry presence to ensure continuity of work.
- Stay up-to-date with new technology in the mechanical contracting industry.
- Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
- Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above responsibilities.

Education and Experience
- Prefers a graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience.
- Qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of contract management, construction scheduling, and trade fluency.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and possess strong organizational and time management skills.
- Self-driven leadership abilities and proficiency in MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects).
- P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset, as well as project management experience.
