Job Title: Education Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Support Specialist to join our team at School District #6 (Rocky Mountain).

Job Summary:

The Education Support Specialist will work under the supervision of a Teacher or Principal to provide support services to students with diverse abilities or disabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in individual educational planning, school-based team meetings, and parent meetings, as well as providing instructional support, behavior management support, and record-keeping support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in individual educational planning and school-based team meetings to support students with diverse abilities or disabilities.
  • Provide instructional support, behavior management support, and record-keeping support to students.
  • Assist in adapting classroom materials and supporting student independence in accessing curriculum.
  • May assist with delivery of medical procedures, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech programs as prescribed by professionals.
  • Supervise students on school outings and assist with development and maintenance of community work experience placements for students with identified special needs.
  • Assist students with personal care needs and work with assistive technologies, including computers and software applications.
  • Actively support independence for all learners and behave in a manner that respects the sensitivity and confidentiality of all information related to staff and students.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in and understanding of students with diverse abilities and disabilities.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work with limited supervision and/or within a complex team environment.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage personal behavior in order to influence a positive outcome and de-escalate distress.
  • Demonstrate a high level of adaptability and responsibility.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and maintain a flexible and co-operative manner.
  • Provide proactive, trauma-informed care while modeling respect and empathy.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Appropriate post-secondary training, such as a Special Education Assistant Program or a diploma in counseling, social work, child care, or education.
  • Certified candidates will have completed a one-year certificate of Education Assistant Program. Non-certified candidates may include a certificate or diploma in counseling, social work, or early childhood education.
  • Successful experience working with students with diverse abilities or disabilities, including low-arousal or non-violent crisis intervention.
Rate of Pay:

As per the Collective Agreement 440, the rate of pay is $29.37/hr for certified Education Assistants and $25.83/hr for non-certified Education Assistants.
