Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in the Emergency Department at Fort Nelson General Hospital. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide compassionate patient care and work closely with the care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions for patients in the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to patients in the Emergency Department, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions.
  • Work closely with the care team to coordinate health services and participate in discharge and/or care planning.
  • Function as a patient advocate and teach patients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.
  • Provide care to patients across the lifespan, and their families, based on stable and/or predictable states of health.
  • Recognize and respond to unexpected patient outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Document care provided and response to incidents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Emergency Department expectations.
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses and one (1) year recent experience working in a related area of care.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrate ability in nursing practice related to caring for patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnoses related to designated patient group.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform nursing assessments and interventions related to common diagnoses and specific clinical situations relevant to the designated patient group.
  • Demonstrate ability to make sound clinical judgments to provide safe, ethical patient care.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize potential complications and care issues relevant to the designated patient group.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage conflict situations and aggressive behavior.
  • Demonstrate ability to document patient care on appropriate systems/forms in accordance with organizational and unit standards.
