Regular Full-Time Payroll Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join our Finance Department at Middlesex Hospital Alliance. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for preparing, inputting, balancing, calculating, transmitting, and distributing bi-weekly payroll.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and input payroll data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Verify time coding accuracy, correct errors, and process adjustments to employee time and pay
  • Complete remittances for all payroll deductions, including Receiver General of Canada, Hospital Pension Plan, WSIB, and EHT
  • Prepare and reconcile all legally required year-end reports and returns, including T4s, T4As, HOOPP, EHT, and WSIB
  • Prepare billings for HOOPP and healthcare benefits for staff on leaves
  • Perform monthly payroll benefit reconciliations
  • Collaborate with Finance staff, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve payroll-related issues

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or business
  • Minimum of three years analytical payroll experience with strong knowledge of human resources, compensation, and benefits practices
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification through CPA or college equivalent is an asset
  • Experience working in a union and non-union environment
  • Strong computer proficiency with MS Office, intermediate level knowledge of Excel, and working knowledge of Word
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of payroll legislation and ability to investigate and research complex payroll issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivation, strong organization skills, multi-tasking skills, problem-solving skills, and flexibility to prioritize duties
