Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide and coordinate psychiatric nursing care services to patients, demonstrating nursing expertise and clinical leadership through evidence-based practices.

Responsibilities
  1. Nursing Care Planning: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients, identifying actual or potential problems and strengths through nursing diagnosis, planning interventions, and evaluating outcomes.
  2. Total Therapeutic Program Participation: Actively participate in and support the total therapeutic program of the unit, contributing to a collaborative and person-centered care environment.
  3. Patient Assessment and Education: Collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care, including patient and family education.
  4. Communication and Reporting: Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team about patients' care, explaining plans of care to patients and their families, and writing timely and accurate reports of relevant assessments and observations.
  5. Quality Improvement and Research: Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data, contributing to the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards, and procedures.
  6. Leadership and Mentorship: Participate as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils for improvement of patient care and/or work environment, and contribute to the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A graduate degree in Nursing from an approved School of Nursing
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies related to mental health and substance use practices
