We are seeking a skilled Pediatric Developmental Clinic Nurse to join our team at IWK Health Centre. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care for children and youth with developmental concerns.

About the Role

As a Pediatric Developmental Clinic Nurse, you will be responsible for conducting child and family assessments, providing education and support, and advocating on behalf of patients and families. You will also participate in implementing changes to improve service provision and develop internal and external partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct child and family interviews, assessments, interventions, and follow-ups as indicated
  • Coordinate appointments and case conferences for families as needed
  • Educate and teach patients and families as required
  • Act as a resource for families regarding support services available in the Maritimes
  • Understand interdisciplinary services and refer clients/families appropriately
  • Develop and maintain internal and external partnerships
  • Advocate on behalf of patients and families
  • Participate in implementing change to continually improve service provision
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required
  • Current successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required
  • Minimum five years clinical experience required, three (3) years current pediatric nursing experience required; experience completing child and family assessments is essential
  • Demonstrated understanding of development and related issues through the life span required
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, independent decision-making, and leadership skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain internal/external partnerships required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide telephone-facilitated care required
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to Family Centered Care required
  • Proven effective oral and written communication skills required
  • Recognized team player with the demonstrated ability to work independently required
  • Proven time management, organization, and problem-solving skills required
  • Previous ambulatory experience, particularly with children with developmental conditions preferred
  • Demonstrated familiarity with support services available in the community for this population preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of the clinical specialties related to the care of a child/youth with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Competency in other languages is considered an asset
