Key Responsibilities  

The Sustainability Data Manager will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of comprehensive sustainability strategies, including crafting Element's Climate Action Plan and aligning with science-based emission reduction targets. This role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams to communicate goals and drive tangible progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Project Management

    • Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability strategies, including crafting Element's Climate Action Plan and aligning with science-based emission reduction targets.

    • Lead the planning, execution, and management of diverse sustainability projects, including the development of intricate project plans to monitor, forecast, and track progress.

    • Manage the seamless implementation of ESG software to establish a centralized data repository for enhanced auditability and control of all Sustainability metrics.

    • Cultivate strategic partnerships with key alliances to drive supply chain Sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment with human rights and sustainability objectives while maintaining compliance and fostering momentum.

    • Uphold a commitment to delivering all projects on-time, within scope, and within budget, demonstrating a dedication to excellence and efficiency in sustainability project management.

  • Reporting

    • Take charge of external reporting initiatives under the guidance of the VP, Sustainability, encompassing key frameworks such as the Science-based Targets Initiative (SBTi), CDP, Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) alignment and submissions.

    • Formulate and implement metrics and KPIs to monitor progress towards sustainability targets, reporting performance quarterly and annually through the Sustainability Index of the Global Balanced Scorecard.

    • Collaborate with finance accounting and controls teams to ensure accurate Sustainability data collection and disclosure, including the annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

    • Manage the integration of non-financial/sustainability-related data in Workiva, including the implementation of the ESG module.

    • Assist in preparing content for quarterly Board updates on Sustainability matters.

    • Develop sustainability KPIs aligned with industry standards for each entity, to be tracked and reported annually, engaging stakeholders to drive results.

    • Support the commercial team in responding to RFPs and client ESG/sustainability survey requests.

  • Engagement

    • Drive the validation process for science-based targets and spearhead the implementation of decarbonization initiatives company-wide to achieve sustainability goals effectively.

    • Act as a liaison for Element in external associations and working groups, advocating for sustainable practices and fostering strategic partnerships.

    • Offer advisory services internally to assess and mitigate Sustainability-related business risks, provide strategic recommendations on regulatory compliance, and align business strategies with sustainability objectives.

    • Educate and empower key internal stakeholders, particularly within the Commercial team, on leveraging Sustainability as a competitive advantage.

  • Development

    • Lead working groups in the development of Sustainability policies, positions, and action plans across the company.

    • Drive enhancements to third-party Sustainability and impact rating agency scores through strategic initiatives and performance improvements.

    • Conduct regular evaluations of the organization's environmental sustainability performance compared to industry benchmarks and best practices, staying abreast of climate and environmental legislation, regulations, and trends.

    • Spearhead the development of comprehensive Sustainability policies, positions, and action plans company-wide by leading working groups to ensure alignment with industry standards and organizational objectives.

    • Provide support for sustainability initiatives, including fostering engagement with suppliers and clients to promote sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.

    • Lead cross-functional internal working groups to identify, cultivate, and implement opportunities that encourage employee participation in Sustainability efforts, fostering a culture of sustainability within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in sustainability, environmental science, finance, statistics, business analytics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or a related field.

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience in data analytics and management.

  • Experience in Environmental, Sustainability, ESG or Impact sectors, or related experience.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Financial analysis expertise is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in advanced Excel and data visualization tools like PowerPoint and Power BI.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and data manipulation techniques.

  • Familiarity with SQL and programming languages such as Python, HTML, and Java.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a successful track record in project management and communication. 

  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. 

  • Global experience is preferred.

  • Strategic thinker and adaptable problem solver with a data-driven approach to achieving results.
