Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Mental Health Clinician to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will play a vital role in providing person-centered and recovery-oriented care to pediatric patients in our Emergency Departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform intake assessments and provide crisis intervention to pediatric patients in the Emergency Departments.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for pediatric patients.
  • Provide input into the care of pediatric psychiatric patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission.
  • Assist with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed pediatric patients through collaboration with Emergency Departments and inpatient unit interprofessional teams.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, and act as a case manager by liaising and consulting with community resources.
  • Provide general and crisis counseling to patients and their families, including short-term crisis follow-up in accordance with approved treatment plans.
  • Communicate and consult with Emergency department staff, other emergency service providers, and community service providers on patient care issues, resources, and discharge planning.
  • Document assessments, care plans, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling, or other relevant health-related discipline.
  • Two years' recent related clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health, including assessment, individual, family, and group interventions.
  • Eligible for registration with relevant professional association.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate business insurance coverage for work-related purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of community response procedures, mental health assessment, general counselling principles, and intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Intervention Theory and demonstrated skill in crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Systems Theory and an ability to incorporate this into mental health assessments and treatment interventions.
  • Knowledge of theory and evidence-based practice related to Developmental Pediatrics; Neuropsychiatric conditions such as complex ADHD, FASD, Pervasive Developmental Disorders; Tourette's Disorder; Seizure Disorders.
