Job Title: Pediatric Emergency Clinician - Mental Health Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate mental health professional to join our pediatric emergency department team. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide critical support to pediatric patients and their families in emergency situations. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments to identify client and family needs
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the interprofessional care team
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term follow-up treatment services
  • Collaborate with emergency department staff, community mental health teams, and other service providers to ensure seamless patient care
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure informed decision-making
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and services
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops on mental health issues, crisis management, and early intervention

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling, or other relevant health-related discipline
  • Two years' recent related clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health
  • Eligible for registration with relevant professional association
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate business insurance coverage

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of community response procedures, mental health assessment, and general counselling principles
  • Demonstrated skill in crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and families
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Systems Theory and ability to incorporate this into mental health assessments and treatment interventions
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients and families to conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize responsibilities
