Job Title: Senior Firmware Engineer - Power Electronics

DRS Pivotal Power, a leading developer of high reliability power conversion equipment, is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team in Bedford, Nova Scotia. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing switch-mode power conversion equipment in the 100W to 100kW power range.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop firmware for power conversion equipment
  • Collaborate with firmware designers to define project requirements
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and support legacy product development
  • Review customer specifications and assist in bid and proposal generation
  • Contribute to budget, cost, and schedule inputs for engineering projects
  • Evaluate supplier components and subsystems
  • Support design-to-cost and design-for-manufacture requirements
  • Develop prototypes to resolve key development risks
  • Generate engineering documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and reports
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical design, with 5 years in firmware development
  • P. Eng. designation and eligibility for registration with Engineers NS
  • Familiarity with military and commercial standards for electrical designs
  • Strong ability to read schematics and engineering specs, with troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of power electronics and power converters design
  • Experience with electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures, and related knowledge
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing, supply chain, and program management teams
