Our team consists of addiction medicine physicians, nurses, and social workers who work closely with local service providers to deliver care in patients' home communities.
We currently serve the Vancouver region, with plans to expand to the Sea to Sky Corridor and other areas within the Vancouver Region. Our clinic operates out of St. Paul's Hospital.
Job SummaryThe Clinical Nurse Leader/Nurse Educator coordinates the day-to-day operations of a designated nursing unit or service, supervising staff and providing clinical support to nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members. This role involves developing and implementing educational programs for nursing staff and patients/families, as well as promoting research and quality improvement initiatives within the program.
Responsibilities- Coordinates day-to-day activities of the assigned unit or service, supervising staff and providing critical input on employee performance.
- Acts as a clinical resource to nursing staff, students, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, demonstrating procedures and answering questions related to clinical practice issues.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs within the clinical area, assessing learning needs and developing proposals to meet those needs.
- Coordinates and prepares educational activities, including coaching staff in clinical nursing skills and behaviors.
- Reviews policies, procedures, and reference materials for nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team, making recommendations for changes and communicating updates to staff.
- Provides clinical consultation to internal and external healthcare professionals in the area of expertise.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates patient education programs, leading group patient/family sessions as required.
- Performs direct nursing care, including physical assessment and administering medications and treatments.
- Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and provides input regarding patient and family progress.
- Identifies trends in patient outcomes and recommends program modifications to the Patient Care Manager.
- Promotes the use of research findings into practice and supports research activities and quality improvement initiatives.
- Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant, with qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area, plus three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to coach and supervise, demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures, and match skills of staff with clinical needs.
- Ability to identify learning needs and develop educational programs, provide and/or develop resource materials, and demonstrate knowledge of adult education principles.
- Ability to teach and lead groups, deal with and promote change, and role model conflict resolution strategies.
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, apply decision-making and analytical skills, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work independently, operate related equipment, including computers, and maintain physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
As per the current Public Health Orders, all employees working for Providence Health Care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
