Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Director, Policy and Communications to join our team at Employment and Social Development Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on large and complex projects or services related to policy and research.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in providing leadership in the management of communication functions such as public affairs, media relations, and outreach. They will also possess experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal or external stakeholders.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly respected and trusted independent binational advisor to the governments of Canada and the United States. The International Joint Commission (IJC) plays a critical role in managing and protecting hundreds of shared lakes and rivers, and preventing and resolving disputes over transboundary waters.

As the Director, Policy and Communications, you will be accountable for the management of strategic and operational policy and public outreach and communications advisory services on initiatives supporting the binational management of Canada-U.S. transboundary waters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development of plans and strategies
  • Lead on publication and dissemination of communications of specialized hydrological and indigenous knowledge related products
  • Organize and oversee public hearings and other forums regarding policy, scientific and engineering studies and advice

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the work to be performed, such as economics, sociology, or communications
  • Significant experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on large and complex projects or services related to policy and research
  • Significant experience in providing leadership in the management of communication functions such as public affairs, media relations, and outreach
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal or external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
