Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of our water treatment facilities and outstations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the performance of plant process equipment and related appurtenances.
  • Assist with the adjustment, inspection, and evaluation of process performance and equipment to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Make process adjustments, operational decisions, and address alarm conditions and emergency situations.
  • Provide work direction and training to other staff.
  • Maintain records and documentation of all process and/or work area activities.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current valid Operator-in-Training licence by examination in Wastewater Treatment System Operation, Wastewater Collection Operation, Water Treatment System Operation, and Water Distribution Operation.
  • Must be able to obtain by examination a Level I or higher Wastewater Treatment Operation, Certificate of Competency, and a Level I or higher Water Treatment Operation, Certificate of Competency.
  • Previous experience in water and wastewater treatment is preferred.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class "G" license for the class of the vehicle operated.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with exposure to varying climatic conditions, potential exposure to treatment chemicals, sludge, water, and wastewater, and work at computer terminals, heights, and confined spaces.
