Job Summary:

The Regional Municipality of York is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our corporate digital, design, and public relations department, you will be responsible for conducting research to identify opportunities to profile the Region and promote its services. This includes representing the Region at public events, fostering strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and providing leadership and guidance on corporate outreach activities.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Identify, plan, and coordinate opportunities to increase the Region's profile in the community through public outreach and community engagement events.
  • Oversee the Region's corporate merchandise procurement, including managing internal and external sales in accordance with the Region's internal chargeback procedures.
  • Lead the coordination and oversight of targeted focus groups and resident surveys to inform public outreach activities.
  • Identify and support the development of corporate communication efficiencies, support systems, controls, directives, and improvements to maintain and enhance the Region's presence.
  • Chair internal community engagement teams, providing leadership and guidance to maximize the Region's profile and impact at public events.
  • Oversee corporate-led advertising, including identifying and advertising in specialty publications and providing support for the Region's coordinated media buying program.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with community agencies, local municipalities, and others to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of the Region's public relations/outreach efforts.
  • Represent the Region at public and corporate events, ensuring representation aligns with corporate branding and messaging.
  • Support and coordinate corporate events, including the Annual Take Our Kids to Work Day event and communication-focused conferences.

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated event management skills and the ability to foster collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with staff, the public, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with leveraging traditional media and new media to effectively support public relations programs.
  • Demonstrated people skills, including chairing committees, facilitating training, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring and measurement to support the evaluation of brand management and engagement efforts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts, and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies, including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license free of serious offenses under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends, as required.
  • Ability to lift and set up at indoor and outdoor events, and work outside in various weather conditions.
