About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead the Labour Board in Nova Scotia. As the senior staff person, you will be accountable for setting the strategic direction of the Board and leading its execution.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Lead, direct, and manage a team of officers and administrative employees to promote a safe, inclusive, and anti-racist workplace.
  • Oversee the case management process of the Labour Board, ensuring cases are processed in a timely manner and compliant with legislation and principles of procedural fairness.
  • Develop and implement the Board's strategic and operational planning in partnership with the Chair.
  • Participate in the strategic and business planning for the Labour Services Branch.
  • Review and analyze metrics on Board performance standards and measures, evaluate community partner satisfaction, and report on the Board's performance.
  • Oversee the quality control process for Board decisions.
  • Develop and implement new administrative policies and procedures for the Board.
  • Provide mediation and alternative resolution services to facilitate the resolution of disputes before the Board.
  • Rend decisions relating to duty of fair representation complaints.
Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a law degree or an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline plus five years of relevant work experience, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

As the successful candidate, you will have labour and employee relations experience, including experience with legal research, the interpretation of labour and employment legislation, analysis, evidence, and legal writing.

You will have demonstrated effective leadership and team building skills, experience effectively managing the delivery of services to the public, and strong strategic and operational planning skills.

You will also have experience in alternative dispute resolution processes, be a problem solver with superior verbal and written communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
