Job Title: Instructor, Natural Resources

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified instructor to teach natural resource micro-credentials at North Island College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in one or more of the following courses at the Campbell River campus.

Courses:
  • CFW – 113: Technical Math for Forestry
  • RFT 117: Statistical Analysis for Forestry

The instructor will be responsible for implementing the College's vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, the instructor will use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design.

Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  2. Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs
  3. Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity in courses and course outlines
  4. Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  5. Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours to discuss their progress and other issues that influence their learning
  6. Clearly communicate in writing learning outcomes for programs and courses, and the way in which learners will be evaluated against those outcomes
  7. Design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students and keep students informed of their progress
  8. Submit grades in a timely manner, in accordance with College policy
  9. Maintain records of student enrollment and achievement and other records required by the College and affiliated agencies
Requirements:
  • Forest professional or related/allied discipline and minimum of three years industry experience required
  • A master's degree in math, education, forestry, environmental studies or a related field
  • Curriculum development experience
  • One year teaching experience in a post-secondary setting
  • BC Instructors Diploma or BC Teaching Certificate is preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with all aspects of course instruction, including facilitation of theoretical and applied learning, coordination of field trips, engaging with industry, and coordination of instructional resources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with a variety of instructional aids, computer applications, learning technologies and digital tools
  • Demonstrated pedagogical approaches to stimulate and empower learners
  • Experience with the efficient use of advanced instructional technologies of relevance to face-to-face and online instruction
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and co-operatively in campus-based and online team environments, and with students, industry, funders, employers, and staff
