Senior Civil Site Design Engineer

Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Senior Civil Site Design Engineer to join our Civil Design Team. This is a great opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting firm. The successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. We offer a collaborative, multi-discipline environment to develop innovative, cost-effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits.

In this position, you will be responsible for leading the design efforts for site design, grading, and drainage, yard piping, and linear construction efforts on small to large water, wastewater, and stormwater projects. This includes both leading teams of engineers and designers and collaborating with structural, mechanical, process, and electrical engineers and designers.

You will be responsible for working effectively with local and remote design team members to meet and exceed project schedule and quality goals. You will assist in the civil discipline portions of business development activities. This includes developing civil scope and engineering level of effort estimates as well as maintaining project budgets and schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering work with the Civil Design Discipline team on water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater projects including pipelines, site layout for pumping stations and treatment plants, and grading and drainage efforts for municipal and private industrial clients.
  • Engineering work will include preparation of alternative analyses, preliminary engineering reports, technical memorandums, basis of design reports, construction drawings and specifications, and permitting packages.
  • Use a range of software for developing designs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydrology and hydraulics associated with the design of both open channel, closed conduits, stormwater management facilities, reservoirs, and erosion control practices.
  • Review work of others for quality and help to resolve design and development problems.
  • Oversee and complete data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Conduct field work such as site investigations, sampling, condition assessments, and construction observation duties.
  • Perform submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Assist in project scope and budget development.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with internal project teams.
  • Provide scope reviews, coordination, and QC with subconsultants surveyors, geotechnical, architectural, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers and consultants.
  • Supervise employees, including managing performance, mentoring, and training.
  • Mentor junior- and entry-level engineers.
  • Additional duties may include marketing and business development, project management assistance, professional development, proposal preparation, and other business-related functions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in municipal and/or industrial civil design including water and wastewater pipelines and site work.
  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.) required.
  • Additional professional engineering license in the United States is preferred.
  • Experience working with local and regional permitting agencies to obtain site, zoning, and stormwater permits for industrial/municipal site development required.
  • Proficiency in standard computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat is required.
  • Experience coordinating with staff performing Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Experience using engineering calculation software (e.g. AutoCAD) is a plus.
  • Experience using hydrology and hydraulic calculations/modeling software (e.g. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Hydraflow Storm Sewers, etc.) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, MEP/Revit a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Field and construction experience is a plus.
  • GIS experience is a plus.
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally.
