Job Title: Shelter Support Worker

The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing a positive living environment for our clients, promoting independence and self-help, and ensuring their day-to-day basic needs are met.

About the Role:
  • Provide support and guidance to clients in a shelter environment, promoting independence and self-help.
  • Ensure clients' day-to-day basic needs are met, including food, clothing, and personal care.
  • Work collaboratively with other support staff to create a positive and supportive living environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, understanding their individual needs and goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed, utilizing de-escalation techniques and crisis management strategies.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and services to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a two-year College Diploma or University Degree in human and/or social services.
  • Crisis intervention skills and experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or willingness to acquire.
  • Understanding and support for a Housing First philosophy and issues related to housing stability.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including mental health and addictions.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to social and economic barriers and issues unique to the shelter system.
