This role offers a salary range of $80,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on experience, and is located in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, or Vancouver.

Job Description

As a Senior Construction Underwriter at Aon, you will play a key role in expanding our Linx project construction offering and programs.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with management and colleagues to develop and implement underwriting strategies
  • Sharing your industry expertise and knowledge with more junior team members, brokers, and markets
  • Underwriting Builders Risk and Wrap Up liability policies
  • Analyzing new business opportunities and providing terms based on our underwriting guidelines
  • Developing clear and concise underwriting proposals for accounts that may fall outside underwriting authority
  • Negotiating terms, conditions, and pricing within our program's underwriting guidelines/authorities
  • Identifying opportunities to upsell coverage, limits, or products
  • Maintaining high levels of service with a customer-focused approach
  • BUILDING strong relationships with our brokers and markets
  • Contributing to the training and development of more junior underwriters/underwriting assistants
  • Monitoring and assessing competitive factors in the marketplace and keeping the team informed of any changing market conditions

Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • 5+ years of project construction underwriting experience
  • 5-10 years of commercial property and casualty experience in the contracting sector (an asset)
  • Cross-Canada underwriting experience (an asset)
  • AIIC/CIP and/or FCIP designation
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems
  • Robust analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of the time sensitivity of the project construction market
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience mentoring or training junior staff (an asset)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Outlook
