Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Municipal Planner to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive plans and policies related to land use, zones, designations, resource management, and community development.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and advise senior leadership on compliance with provincial policies and legislation regarding planning and development.
  2. Manage planning and development applications and agreements, including zoning, official plans, and subdivision consents.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders, community members, developers, and other relevant parties to ensure development projects align with our goals, regulations, and vision for sustainable growth.
  4. Provide professional recommendations, courses of action, and solutions to senior management, council, and other stakeholders.
  5. Manage and update our Municipal GIS system, including ownership changes, consolidations, and subdivisions.
  6. Digitize plans into the GIS program for use by the department in visualizing assets and using information for design, reports, and presentations.
  7. Attend and prepare reports for senior management, council, and other stakeholders.
  8. Represent the municipality positively through the delivery of services to the public in a courteous, informative, and professional manner.
  9. Work safely and follow all safety policies in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Requirements
  1. University degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of municipal planning, urban planning, community development, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  3. Proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
  4. Working knowledge of planning principles, practices, techniques, field data collection, cartography principles, and using GPS technology.
  5. Knowledge of GIS mapping best practices and formal training in ESRI software solutions (including ArcGIS Pro) would be an asset.
  6. Experience with Microsoft 365 applications and user administration would be an asset.
  7. Working knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, the Municipal Act, and Municipal By-Laws.
  8. GIS Technician Certification or willingness to achieve certification.
  9. Excellent communication skills, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
  10. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  11. Ability to work effectively as a team and independently.
  12. Intermediate computer skills (MS Office).
Workplace Requirements and Conditions
  1. Valid Ontario Driver's License in good standing.
  2. Ability to sit and do computer work for sustained periods of time.
  3. Location: Onsite Red Lake, Ontario.
