About the Role

Mount Royal University is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing high-quality undergraduate university education. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking an experienced Digital Media Strategist to join our Marketing and Communications team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping our online presence, driving engagement with students, faculty, and the global community. This role requires a highly organized self-starter with exceptional communication skills, a passion for technology, and digital platforms.

We are looking for a leader who can provide guidance across the institution on social media best practices and content creation, while implementing a long-term strategic social media content plan.

This role involves working closely with teams and leaders throughout the institution, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes student success.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and oversee the day-to-day activities of institutional social media accounts, ensuring consistency in storytelling and strategy.
  2. Provide ongoing direction, supervision, and training to social media administrators campus-wide, ensuring adherence to best practices, usage guidelines, brand, and crisis communication protocols.
  3. Lead strategists in incorporating social media into plans, programs, and initiatives, ensuring seamless execution.
  4. Research and evaluate emerging social media and digital communication tools to manage risk, enable day-to-day operations, and align with long-term strategic plans.
  5. Utilize social media strategies to amplify institutional priorities such as recruitment initiatives, student retention, community partnerships, and alumni and donor initiatives.
  6. Translate the University brand, traditional media, key events, partnerships, and marketing campaigns into social media opportunities to increase the University's reach and profile.
  7. Analyze data and analytics tools to measure social media performance and provide insights for continuous improvement.
  8. Participate in photography, videography, and editing for social media and other digital platforms as required, in coordination with other marketing and communications team members.
  9. Play a critical role in issues management and crisis communications.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent.
  2. 5-8 years of direct social media experience with a large, complex organization.
  3. Previous post-secondary experience is an asset.
  4. A highly organized self-starter, skilled storyteller, and creative problem solver with evolved judgment and interpersonal skills.
  5. Well-rounded experience in communications, issues management, emergency response, and reputation management.
  6. Demonstrated ability to adapt writing style for various purposes.
  7. Experience with videography, photography, editing, and design template software.

Compensation and Benefits

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per annum
