Our expansions have been announced at existing facilities in the United States, Japan, and South Korea, with start-up scheduled in succession from the first half of fiscal year 2026.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Construction Manager to be a part of a new plant start-up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. This position manages the day-to-day activity for new manufacturing plant construction, overseeing and directing the performance of all field construction and related activities in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the execution of new plant construction projects in conformance with the requirements of the company's operating policies and procedures.
  • Manage all risks associated with the execution of the work, including ongoing risk assessment and associated mitigation efforts.
  • Establish and maintain full and efficient alignment for all activities, including all functions, departments, and locations with particular focus across project phases.
  • Adhere to and support Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada's health, safety & environmental policies.
  • Serve as lead person to coordinate all activities and communication within the site/project areas as well as between those areas and other offices.
  • Coordinate and implement indirect activities, internal and external, required to support a productive project execution.
  • Planning, scheduling, tracking, and managing construction milestones.
  • Scheduling to include managing CPM in Microsoft Project, updating frequently, and keeping current.
  • Track all project delays and log, communicating with client and subcontractors.
  • Manage quality assurances in all aspects of project construction.
  • Evaluate, manage, motivate and encourage staff and contractors.
  • Promote and maintain good contractor and vendor relationships.
  • Hold pre-construction meetings with contractors.
  • Conduct weekly safety and schedule coordination meetings with contractors, as well as pre-installation meetings.
  • Verify that equipment and installations comply with approved submittals.
  • Manage contractor compliance.
  • Make sure no extra work is allowed without written authorization.
  • Make sure changes to the project are approved and documented.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or other related field of study.
  • 7+ years of commercial construction project management experience.
  • Experience in completing construction projects with a value of $50 million or more.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, province, and national statutes and guidelines.
  • Understanding of all aspects of building commercial structures, construction tools, materials techniques, and practices.
  • Contractor and vendor management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, One-Note and Teams).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to problem-solve with any project participant and arrive at effective, amicable resolutions.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% domestically and abroad for training and visiting other company locations.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule for emergencies and to attend in-person meetings and conference calls outside of normal business hours.
