Position Summary


Under the leadership of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, the Health Care Aide assists residents in meeting their personal care needs.


The incumbent exercises initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with personal care activities as identified in care plans
  • Provide care according to established standards and policies
  • Exercise initiative and judgment in determining work priorities and methods
  • Function in a manner consistent with the mission and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy requirements
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements
  • Knowledge of violence prevention program
  • One to two years' experience in a health care setting preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated ability to perform as a team member
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Complete a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and other screening requirements
  • Be immunized as a condition of employment
  • Hold a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance if required by the program area
