About the Role

This position plays a crucial role in the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program at the University of Alberta Hospital, supporting patients within the Surgery service area and other clinical areas on the hospital campus as indicated. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work under the assignment, monitoring, and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist, or speech-language pathologist, contributing to effective and efficient rehabilitation services across the health care continuum, including direct and indirect client care for all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work effectively as part of an interprofessional team to provide high-quality rehabilitation services.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide direct and indirect client care, including assessments, interventions, and education.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of clinical practices.
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Requirements

  • Completion of a diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification.
  • One (1) year directly related experience, preferably in the Edmonton Zone acute care.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
