Automation and Continuous Improvement Specialist

This role is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of process and material handling equipment and automation systems. It also involves coordinating and supporting continuous improvement activities and the implementation of plans, including lean manufacturing initiatives, six-sigma projects, and kaizen projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement new automated material handling systems, gauges, and processes
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and improve existing automated systems and machinery
  • Work with Automation Engineering Specialists to launch vendor-sourced automated systems and machinery
  • Formulate and implement improvement plans and organize project staff
  • Manage all phases of a continuous improvement project, including identification, requirements, research, design, prototyping, planning, testing, and measurement
  • Prepare interim and completion reports to document progress and achievement
  • Use lean practices to coordinate and support CI activities at the plant level and work with other Stackpole plants as necessary
  • Coordinate training and promote understanding of lean principles and techniques to all employees
  • Exercise functional authority for reducing waste and variation in identified key business processes
  • Accountable for producing measurable improvement results on projects
  • Coordinate activities to promote a general continuous improvement culture
  • Work in compliance with Stackpole PM-Mississauga Quality and EHS Policies and Procedures, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Industrial Engineering, mechanical, electrical, or automation technology, or Ontario industrial trade (Electrical Control (Machine) Builder)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in an industrial environment or a 3rd-year apprentice or higher
  • Good organizational skills, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and on a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Competent in the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Competent in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software
  • Ability to fabricate and assemble mechanical devices, machine, weld, paint, and build or repair pneumatic control systems
