Job Overview

The Mental Health Nurse Specialist is a key member of the integrated mental health and substance use service, providing urgent outreach, responsive assessment and treatment, case management, GP shared care, education, and support to individuals experiencing acute and/or chronic mental illness and/or problem substance use.

This is a casual opportunity. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. There are many opportunities with Interior Health that begin with casual employment and lead to regular employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Function as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.
  • Provide assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life.


About this Location/Unit:

Ashcroft and Cache Creek are small communities with one of the best climates in BC, having mild winters, and warm summers, with little precipitation. The mountains are only a few miles away. Skiing, hiking, fishing, swimming, and biking opportunities are within easy drives. While the health site is located in and named after the Ashcroft community (population 1,800), the Village of Cache Creek (population 1,200) is 10 km away. The site provides service to both communities and the surrounding area, a total population of approximately 7,000.

Compensation and Benefits:

Effective April 1, 2024, the hourly wage will be $41.42 - $55.91 per hour.
