About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Engineer to join our Claims Department. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our growth and helping us better control claims management.

Job Summary

As a Forensic Engineer, you will be responsible for investigating the cause and origin of losses, including fires and explosions. You will work closely with our internal and external adjusters, file handlers, and building appraisers to complete assignments and provide expert opinions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate loss sites to determine the cause and circumstances of fires and explosions
  • Document the scene and express your opinion on the probable cause of the damage
  • Contribute your technical expertise to help resolve disputes during claims
  • Participate in joint analysis of specimens related to the cause of claims
  • Record and manage the storage of specimens related to your files
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of buildings, construction methods, heat transfer, and fire propagation laws
  • Ability to understand and identify the root cause of damage and rule out other possible causes
  • Recreate the sequence of events that led to the loss and validate these steps with up-to-date scientific knowledge
  • Apply the scientific method to identify the cause of losses
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or relevant applied sciences with at least five years of experience
  • Member in good standing of a professional order in the relevant scientific field
Desired Skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills to explain the cause and origin of losses
  • Ability to provide short but detailed reports or detailed ones for more significant losses
  • Experience in insurance and as an expert before the courts would be a major asset
Certification
  • Hold or be able to obtain CFI, CFEI, CFVI, or WETT certification
