About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Damascus, Café and bakery. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment, preparing food, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces to maintain a high level of hygiene and safety.
  • Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of food, including washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables and fruits.
  • Food Service: Operate dishwashers, wash and polish floors, and maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, including responding to customer inquiries and resolving any issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure a smooth and efficient service.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience: Willingness to train and learn new skills.
  • Language: English or French.
  • Work Environment: Fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks.
  • Physical Capabilities: Standing for extended periods and working under pressure.

  • Immediate Settlement Needs: Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees, including housing, transportation, and storage.
  • Social and Labour Market Integration: Support social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees, including facilitating access to community resources and language training.
  • Credential Recognition: Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition.
  • Mentorship Programs: Offer mentorship programs that pair newcomers and/or refugees with experienced employees.
Support for Indigenous People
  • Mentorship and Coaching: Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers.
  • Cultural Competency Training: Provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers.
