Ecologist Specialist

Morrison Hershfield, a leading engineering and environmental services provider, is seeking an Intermediate Ecologist to join their team in Ottawa.

This exciting opportunity involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing practical environmental solutions for complex projects across Canada. The successful candidate will have experience with field investigations, environmental impact studies, natural heritage evaluations, and environmental assessments.

• Provide technical expertise in ecological land classification, plant inventories, wetland function and delineation, invasive species identification, and habitat assessments.
• Coordinate and conduct desktop research and data collection, preparing general permit applications for field studies.
• Collaborate with senior biologists to plan and conduct field surveys for habitat classification, species at risk, vegetation, and fish and fish habitat.
• Maintain accurate field notes and photo documentation records.
• Input and summarize data in databases, preparing reports and technical memorandums.
• Identify construction constraints and mitigation requirements.
• Work with peers across environmental disciplines, assisting with construction inspection and oversight.

• University degree in Biology or Environmental Studies, or College diploma with focus on fish and wildlife.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in wildlife biology, botany, terrestrial ecology, and aquatic ecosystems.
• Consulting experience with government and private sector clients.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario/Federal environmental regulations.
• Able to conduct nest inventories and breeding bird surveys.
• Previous electrofishing and fisheries experience, including watercourse habitat assessments.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle.

$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
