Materials Team Leader

About the Role
The Materials Area Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily materials conveyance activities to ensure the safety and efficiency of production operations. This position involves direct leadership responsibility, including the operations of more than one shift.
Your Responsibilities
- Teach, coach, and mentor Supervisors for succession planning and enhancement of Leadership knowledge and skills.
- Conduct performance appraisals informally or formally as required and ensure performance appraisals are completed for all employees.
- Ensure employees are trained or certified, as required, and participate in training programs as defined by Presstran.
- Establish and maintain effective communications/interaction with all other Departments.
- Support other Area Leaders and Lead Hands in compliance with the Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental procedures.
- Plan and direct the utilization and use of all equipment and manpower to achieve the most effective results.
- Be responsible and accountable for meeting Presstran and departmental targets and goals.
- Monitor and adjust inventory balances as required, investigate inventory problems, and implement solutions to source.
- Participate in personnel requirements planning, overtime scheduling, coordinating layoffs, etc.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance with Material Handling Equipment.
- Support supervisors in compliance with OHSA procedures.
- Participate in performing regular workplace inspections, suggest corrective actions, and support the implementation.
- Lead investigations in serious/critical incidents/accidents.
- Coordinate the loading and unloading of trucks and ensure the accuracy of receipts and shipments.
Requirements
- Completion of post-secondary education in a related field (production/materials) and/or related work experience.
- 3-5 years leadership experience.
- Completion of Cosma International Post Graduate Program an asset.
- Experience in Material Flow Design in a Tier One automotive environment.
- ERP systems experience, specifically CMS in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) along with data analysis to drive business objectives and operational excellence.
- Experienced in Lean Implementation (standardized work, 5S, value stream mapping, A3 Method, etc.).
- Must have a thorough knowledge of general office procedures, including PC and LAN computer use.
- Must be proficient in relevant computer software and program use.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor, and drive teams to reach targets.
- Must possess time management, leadership, strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
