Job Description

Job Title: Indigenous Education Learning Partner

Job Summary:

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous Education Learning Partner to join our team. This is a full-time position that will start on September 1, 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with school board staff to provide support and advocacy for Indigenous students, families, and staff.
  • Develop and facilitate professional learning for staff on Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing.
  • Maintain and build relationships with Indigenous community members to support student learning.
  • Create lessons and resources that incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing and knowledge.
  • Liaise with board departments to ensure the implementation of Indigenous content throughout the system.
  • Support educators in implementing Indigenous content and ways of knowing in Social Studies.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of land-based learning and its relation to Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing.
  • Work with community partners to create a land camp for OCSB staff and students.
  • Provide professional and community learning that integrates Indigenous pedagogical practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ontario College of Teachers Certificate, in good standing.
  • Lived experience in local Indigenous communities.
  • Established relationships and connections with Indigenous community members.
  • Three years of experience working directly with Indigenous students.
  • Understanding of local Indigenous community diversity and composition.
  • Awareness of local community resources and ability to support students/families/staff in accessing them.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a mentor, advisor, and advocate for students.
  • Excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Growing Success Document, deep learning framework, differentiated instruction, and current assessment and evaluation practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSB Indigenous Education Framework.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies curriculum and strategies for implementation.
  • Creativity and expertise in leading and implementing new initiatives at the school and/or system level.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong technology skills, including Google Suite, Hapara, and related digital tools.
  • Experience facilitating and presenting to groups of teachers.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak French, Anishinaabemowin, or other Indigenous languages.

Terms and Conditions:

This is a three-year term position, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years. The renewal of this position is dependent on Ministry funding.
