Position Summary:
The Government of Manitoba is in search of a dedicated Assistant Power Engineer to join the Central Powerhouse team in Winnipeg, MB. This role provides stable, full-time employment along with a defined pension plan. Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess a valid Manitoba 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check, Security Check (if applicable), and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties, including medium/heavy lifting (up to 20 kg), climbing ladders/stairs, walking, crouching, kneeling, and wearing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE). Must also be able to work in restricted or confined spaces and at heights.
  • Must be available for shift work, including weekends and statutory holidays.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Class Steam Plant.
  • Experience in operating mechanical systems and conducting preventative maintenance and general equipment repairs.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaboration and building strong working relationships within a team and with the public.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and relevant safety policies and legislation.

Desired:

  • Experience with computerized building control systems.
  • Experience with Fire Alarm Systems.

Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Chief Power Engineer, the incumbent will assist in the operation and maintenance of a First Class powerhouse and associated mechanical systems. Responsibilities include ensuring optimal program delivery in operations concerning client comfort at connected facilities to the Central Powerhouse. The role involves collaboration with the powerhouse team to guarantee adequate heating and cooling for staff at any connected facilities.
