Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at School District #60 (Peace River North). As an Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs and abilities.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and District personnel to provide care and support to students. This includes providing instructional support, supervising students, and assisting with daily activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides instructional support to students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Supervises students during activities, including in the classroom, gym, school, playground, and on bus(es).
  • Assists with daily activities, such as copying, transcribing, typing, filing, and maintaining records.
  • Implements behavior management programs as determined by the teacher/resource team.
  • Provides person/health care and physical safety assistance to students.
  • Attends team/parent professional development meetings as required.
Qualifications and Attributes:
  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Current CPI status.
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required.
  • Education Assistant Certificate, which includes documented training in the following areas: pervasive developmental disorders, including ASD, FASD, and complex behavioral needs; developmental and sensory needs and disorders; personal care; technology-assisted programs; behavior support; learning challenges.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible/adaptable when faced with new or challenging situations.
  • Physical ability to keep up with an active child.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
