Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at Hazelwood Construction. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, as well as troubleshooting and diagnosing complex mechanical issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including engines, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex mechanical issues, using computerized and other testing equipment.
  • Inspect and repair or replace faulty components, such as hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and mechanical transmissions.
  • Perform custom rebuilds and repairs on heavy equipment, including engines and compressors.
  • Check and maintain all heavy equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units, as well as perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the Operations Manager.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
Requirements
  • Must possess a Journeyperson's certificate or a Red Seal certification.
  • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training.
  • 5-10 years' experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
