About the Role

West Fraser is seeking a skilled Certified Millwright to join our team at Slave Lake Veneer. As an Industrial Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing our manufacturing equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work Safely: Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on pumps, conveyors, compressors, mechanical systems, rollers & chains, bearings, and hydraulics involved in the manufacturing process.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to minimize equipment downtime and optimize performance.
  • Technical Expertise: Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during assembly, installation, set-up, and repair of equipment and machinery.
  • Inspection and Repair: Inspect and examine machinery and equipment, and repair or replace as necessary.
  • Hydraulic Equipment: Repair and assemble hydraulic equipment and cylinders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Documentation: Verify and document repairs made to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Requirements
  • Certification: Hold a valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial Journeyperson Millwright certification.
  • Technical Skills: Possess excellent mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to read blueprints, plans, and schematics.
  • Communication: Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and management.
  • Independence: Work independently with minimal supervision, using initiative and judgment to prioritize tasks and make decisions.
  • Organizational Skills: Possess strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Flexibility: Be willing to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with mill experience.
