We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team in the provision of person-centered care to patients experiencing problematic substance use. Our team works collaboratively with an interprofessional care team to assess, identify, plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care required to support patients on their recovery journey.

Job Description

This role involves working in an addictions environment, assessing the learning needs of patients and their families, and determining what instruction they require. You will facilitate education sessions for patients, family members, service providers, and community agencies on topics such as withdrawal management, relapse prevention, stress management, illness prevention, health maintenance, and health promotion strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients in compliance with standards of practice by reviewing patient status, conducting physical and psychosocial assessments, and consulting with colleagues and other members of the health team.
  • Assesses patient needs, plans, implements, evaluates, and prioritizes nursing care and interventions to develop a care plan specific to each patient using clinical judgment and evidence-based practice.
  • Provides general and crisis counseling to patients who present to the Emergency Department, including short-term follow-up in accordance with approved treatment plans authorized by the Emergency Room Physician or consulting physician.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong foundation in mental health and addiction nursing, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Your ability to educate patients and families about essential health information will be valuable. A positive attitude, empathy, and a commitment to promoting dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information are essential qualities for this position.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Able to complete initial and ongoing mental health and substance use patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety-type interventions including crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment, psychopharmacology, counseling, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team.
Estimated Salary: $52,400 - $68,600 per year
