We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team at Samuel, Son & Co. as an Intermediate Mechanical Designer. This is a key role that will involve working closely with our project management team to design and develop mechanical systems and products.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical systems and products from concept to completion, ensuring they meet customer specifications and requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, applications, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, technical drawings, and bills of material.
- Work closely with the project management team to ensure timely updates to the project schedule and budget.
- Proactively address quote deficiencies, scope creep, and change orders through accepted channels.
- Liaise with internal and external customers to ensure their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
- Collaborate with the design team to conduct design reviews, I/O and functional reviews, safety risk assessments, certification support, design evaluations, and modifications as needed.
- Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Produce accurate CAD layouts, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material.
- Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering designs prepared by the design team.
- Ensure that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured prior to manufacturing release.
- Review peer drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc. and approve release for manufacturing.
- Review assembly bills of material prepared by the design team and approve for purchasing of 3rd party items.
- Assist the shop floor assembly team during the integration phase to resolve any issues and assist in the completion of the system.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Develop strong customer relationships with the view to sourcing additional work and seeking out new potential opportunities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
- Post-Secondary education in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in industrial automation.
- Proficiency using Solidworks and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency using Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal skills in the English language.
