Vehicle Standards Engineer

As a key member of the Department of Public Works, you will play a vital role in supporting safe vehicle fitness and operations. Your expertise will guide the development, implementation, and maintenance of legislation, regulations, policies, and standards.
You will work closely with Transport Canada and other jurisdictions to address issues in vehicle and equipment safety inspection, weights, dimensions, and load securement.
In this role, you will develop and recommend improvements to legislation, regulations, policies, and standards through research and analysis.
Additionally, you will be responsible for addressing the use of after-market and retrofitted vehicle equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement legislation, regulations, policies, and standards related to vehicle and equipment safety
- Collaborate with Transport Canada and other jurisdictions to address safety issues
- Conduct research and analysis to inform policy decisions
- Communicate with stakeholders, including industry representatives and government officials
A Bachelor of Civil or Mechanical Engineering plus six years of related experience is required.
You must be a Full Member of Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS) or meet the requirements to become one.
Strong knowledge of automotive engineering principles and standards is essential.
