Aquatic Instructor

Job Summary:

The City of Whitehorse is seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Aquatic Instructor to join our team. As an Aquatic Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality aquatic programming to a diverse range of participants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and instructional materials for aquatic programs.
• Provide technical guidance and support to participants, ensuring a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
• Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to meet participant needs.
• Collaborate with aquatic staff to develop and implement specialized aquatic activities and events.
• Perform light custodial maintenance and minor repairs to facility and equipment.
• Maintain accurate records and reports, including participant progress and program statistics.
• Attend seasonal in-service training to maintain standards and stay up-to-date on best practices.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to constant noise, extreme temperatures, and humidity in the pool environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Grade 10 or 15 years of age.
• Instructor experience an asset.
• Swim Instructor (SI) – Lifesaving Society certification.
• Standard First Aid/CPR Level C certification.
• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) certification.
• RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) certification an asset.
• Aqua Fitness Certification (CALA, WaterArt, BCRPA or equivalent) an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
