Job Summary:

The City of Whitehorse is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatic Instructor to join our team. As an Aquatic Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality aquatic programs to a diverse range of participants. Your expertise will be essential in preparing and implementing lesson plans, instructional materials, and providing technical guidance for age-appropriate and skill-focused lessons.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver aquatic instruction to patrons, ensuring the quality of programming meets standards.
  • Prepare and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide technical guidance for age-appropriate and skill-focused lessons based on participant abilities.
  • Monitor activities being taught and ensure the quality of the programming meets standards.
  • Collaborate with participants and aquatic staff to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, assist in developing or implementing specialized aquatic activities and events.
  • Perform light custodial maintenance and minor repairs to facility and equipment, assisting in the inventory and stocking of first aid and program supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Input performance data from the program lessons.
  • Attend seasonal in-service to maintain standards.
  • Follow established safety procedures and standards.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to constant noise, extreme temperatures when in and out of the water, and humidity in the pool environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Grade 10, or 15 years of age.
  • Instructor experience an asset.
  • Swim Instructor (SI) – Lifesaving Society.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems certification (WHMIS).
  • RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Lifesaving Instructor certification (LSI) an asset.
  • Aqua Fitness Certification (CALA, WaterArt, BCRPA or equivalent) an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
