About the Opportunity

Aecon Industrial is seeking a skilled Civil Estimator to join our team in Edmonton. As a key member of our estimating team, you will be responsible for generating accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and comprehend tender drawings and specifications to ensure accurate cost estimates.
  • Present project scope, staging, timing, constraints, risks, and potential cost-saving opportunities to bid teams and management.
  • Contribute to project management and leadership through the proposal stage, including involvement in team meetings.
  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, or availability of materials.
  • Perform and/or direct quantity take-offs from tender drawings.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and management, identifying risk areas and populating the Risk Register.
  • Formulate tender costs, including labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor scope and costs, for quotation submission.
  • Lead the estimate close-out process, including tender reviews and sub-proposal reviews and analysis.
  • Transition and handover estimating documents to project execution teams.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years' experience in civil, concrete estimating within the construction/industrial industry.
  • University or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of various types of construction contracts.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, specifications, standards, contract language/Terms and Conditions/Bonding etc.
  • High degree of excellence at performing investigations of each tender and accurately reviewing and incorporating all site conditions that impact bid costs.
  • Consistent and effective at successfully negotiating with vendors for project purchasing needs.
  • Expert level understanding of balanced/un-balanced bids and forecasting margins at the tender stage.
  • Coherently presents the essence/strategy of a completed estimate to management.
  • Expertise in submitting written requests for clarifications from clients.
  • An expert in the job handover process (from estimating to operations).
  • Utilization of estimating software is an asset.
  • Good communications skills both oral and written.
