About the Role

Solaris Management Consultants Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our mechanical engineering department, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to project teams from conceptual design through to detailed engineering, construction, and project commissioning and start-up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to project teams, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction support, and project commissioning and start-up.
  • Prepare conceptual designs and assist in the development of preliminary studies, providing expertise on mechanical equipment and materials selection.
  • Provide expertise and recommendations on static and rotating equipment design, including pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and other equipment.
  • Develop and manage the master equipment list, including mechanical equipment data sheets and specifications.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations and provide award recommendations for vendor-supplied equipment.
  • Act as primary technical contact for vendor-supplied equipment, including client support and vendor management.
  • Review design documents for vendor-supplied equipment to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and project specifications.
  • Participate in project planning, including the development of project schedules and person-hour forecasts/budgets.
  • Assist in the development of overall project cost estimates.
  • Provide mechanical input into multidisciplinary engineering documents, such as the project Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Perform complex and detailed engineering calculations as required.
  • Develop departmental procedures and assist in continuous improvement activities as applicable.
  • May be involved in HAZOP studies.
  • Support construction RFIs related to major equipment.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Science.
  • 6-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with EGBC.
  • Work experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management is an asset.
  • Experience in mechanical equipment design and material selection is preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding and application of engineering codes and standards.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment in analyzing information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.
  • Class 5 driver's license is required.
