Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Solaris Management Consultants Inc. As a key member of our Mechanical Engineering Department, you will play a crucial role in the development of detailed project designs and systems, providing expertise on mechanical equipment design and analysis, and materials selection.
Responsibilities- Provide overall mechanical engineering support to project teams from conceptual design through to detailed engineering, construction support, and project commissioning and start-up.
- Prepare conceptual designs and assist in the development of preliminary studies by providing expertise on mechanical equipment and materials selection.
- Provide expertise and recommendations on static and rotating equipment design, including pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, etc.
- Develop and manage the master equipment list.
- Develop mechanical equipment data sheets.
- Develop mechanical equipment specifications and Request For Quotation packages.
- Perform technical bid evaluations and provide award recommendations for vendor-supplied equipment.
- Act as primary technical contact for vendor-supplied equipment, including client support and vendor management.
- Review design documents for vendor-supplied equipment to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and project specifications, and coordinate further review by other relevant disciplines.
- Participate in project planning through the development of project schedules and person-hour forecasts/budgets.
- Assist in the development of overall project cost estimates.
- Provide mechanical input into multidisciplinary engineering documents, such as the project Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform complex and detailed engineering calculations when required.
- Develop departmental procedures and assist in continuous improvement activities as applicable.
- May be involved in HAZOP studies.
- Support construction RFIs related to major equipment.
- Ability to travel to and work at site as needed, may be required.
- Post-secondary education with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Science.
- 6-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with EGBC.
- Work experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management is an asset.
- Experience in mechanical equipment design and material selection is preferred.
- Fundamental understanding and application of engineering codes and standards.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment in analyzing information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient with MS Office suite.
- Class 5 driver's license is required.

Estimated range is between $70,000-105,000+/annually depending on work experience.
