Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Savory Elementary School.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behaviour disorders, and learning disabilities. The Education Assistant will work collaboratively with teachers, inclusive education specialists, and supervisors to implement adapted and modified curriculum, and provide individualized support to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behaviour disorders, and learning disabilities.
  • Implement adapted and modified curriculum, and provide individualized support to students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, inclusive education specialists, and supervisors to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide physical support to students, including lifting and transferring.
  • Support students with daily living skills, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting.
  • Implement daily exercise programs under the direction of an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
  • Monitor and record student behaviour, and report any concerns to the principal or designate.
  • Attend to minor cuts or bruises, and refer students to the first aid attendant as required.

Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field, or equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans an asset.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and will be required to walk or run in various weather conditions. The candidate must be able to physically support students, including lifting and transferring.
