The Scope:

The Director of Total Rewards is responsible for the strategic planning, design, implementation, and administration of the company's compensation programs and initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of compensation practices, as well as excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Design and manage compensation programs, including salary bands/structures, annual merit increases, bonus programs, and executive compensation packages.
  • Plan and administer long and short-term equity programs and executive programs that drive company performance.
  • Conduct analysis and benchmarking of compensation data against market standards to maintain competitiveness and compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure all compensation practices comply with federal and local laws and regulations.
  • Lead job evaluation processes, including job analysis, job descriptions, and job grading.
  • Develop and manage the compensation budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Integrate compensation programs with performance management systems to ensure a strong link between pay and performance.
  • Develop and deliver communication strategies to ensure employees understand the company's compensation philosophy and programs.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management and HR partners on compensation matters, trends, and policy recommendations to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Champion timely and robust data collection and analysis processes that support research and market, pay equity, and other compensation studies.
  • Collaborate with HR and OpCo leaders to create and revise job descriptions, ensuring they accurately reflect roles, responsibilities, and qualifications for proper compensation alignment.
  • Support annual processes such as salary review cycles, bonus payouts, and equity pay, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
  • Prepare detailed compensation reports and presentations for executive leadership and the board of directors, highlighting trends, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Spearhead special compensation projects, such as mergers and acquisitions integration, pay equity audits, and the implementation of new compensation technologies or methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate compensation data and ensure integrity in HRIS systems.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory, market, and practice changes and trends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or relevant certification (CCP) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in compensation management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and expertise in data and financial modeling and scenario planning.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to coordinate input from multiple sources to develop impactful recommendations to achieve results for the business.
  • An articulate and professional communicator with the ability to provide clear, concise messaging to multiple audiences and present complex information across the organization.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills and the ability to prioritize business requirements appropriately through a collaborative partnership approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate input from multiple complex sources, conduct environmental scanning, and sort through ambiguity to develop impactful recommendations for business decisions.
