Job Summary

The Director of Education and Learning is a key member of the Sylvan Learning team, responsible for delivering high-quality educational programs to students in the Newton, BC area. This role requires a strong educational background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire students to learn.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Delivery
    • Support the Centre Director in delivering educational programs to students, including assessments, lesson planning, and teaching materials.
    • Teach the Sylvan curriculum in a 3:1 setting to students when necessary, interacting with and motivating students during instruction, and evaluating and documenting student progress after instruction.
  • Staff Management
    • Manage and deliver conference activities, including preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families enrolled in Sylvan.
    • Ensure that all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and monitor teacher performance.
    • Motivate and develop staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Student Progress
    • Monitor student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met.
    • Conduct parent conferences on a regular and timely basis, with appropriate documentation.
  • Communication
    • Maintain regular contact with schools via teacher conferences, either in-person, via email, or over the phone.
    • Communicate with the Centre Director any concerns regarding student progress or instructor performance.
  • Marketing and Partnerships
    • May be required to make school visits, establish and maintain relationships with schools for partnership and marketing purposes.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience, preferably in a supervisor role.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.
    • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to discuss and sell Sylvan products and services to new and existing customers.
    • Ability to work collaboratively, with strong team player skills.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, with occasional weekend shifts for marketing events.
