Lydium Technical Services Ltd. is a consulting engineering firm specializing in process and chemical engineering for startup companies and their investors. We work closely with clients' technical and management teams to develop ideas from concept to pilot or demonstration plant. Led by a small team of engineering partners involved in every project, we specialize in extractive metallurgy, electrochemical systems, membrane systems, techno-economic modeling, and pilot plant design.
Job Summary:We are seeking a Project Engineer to contribute to and eventually lead cleantech scale-up, piloting, and commercial demonstration projects. You will play a critical role in helping startups thrive, adapting to various client needs, such as project management, process design, mechanical design, engineering studies, and site support. This fast-paced, client-facing role requires technical expertise, project management skills, and a hands-on approach. Travel may be required (up to 25%).
Key Responsibilities:- Lead pilot plant design and engineering, including process design, equipment selection, and component integration.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop project specifications and deliverables.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Identify and mitigate risks in complex projects.
- Oversee pilot plant commissioning, including on-site supervision and troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot project challenges both on-site and in the office.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and operating manuals.
- Communicate with clients, providing updates and addressing project scope changes.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals and presentations.
- Participate in internal product development to enhance our service offerings.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-7 years of experience in mechanical, chemical, metallurgical, or electrochemical engineering.
- Experience in designing and integrating equipment for test systems at various scales.
- Strong interest in new technology and startups.
- Solid understanding of chemical processes, equipment selection, and plant design.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Willingness to travel within Canada and the USA (up to 25%).
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English.
- Knowledge of piping specifications for challenging environments (corrosive, high temperature, flammable gases).
- Accreditation in hazard analysis methods (HAZID, What-If, HAZOP, LOPA).
- Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
- Experience developing SOPs for new processes at operating facilities.
- Experience commissioning plants and facilities at various scales.
- Project management accreditation.
- Driver's license (required for some sites).
- Experience with process modeling (e.g., Aspen Plus, SysCad).
- Competitive salary (C$90,000 to C$120,000) based on qualifications.

We maintain small, collaborative office spaces in Vancouver, BC, and North York, ON, for brainstorming and innovation. We also provide a home office technology stipend to support remote work or a membership at a coworking space. All team members are required to work in the office two set days per week for collaborative work, with additional days as needed to meet project demands.
